Neighbors Gone but Not Forgotten!  

We all miss seeing Dave Mathis driving around in his little black truck, checking to make sure our water system is functioning well.  He was always friendly and had a good word for everyone he met along the way - and he knew everyone here and in the other communities he served to the north and south of Bridgehaven. Dave and Marti have lived in Bridgehaven for 29 years.   

Many of us will never forget that night at our monthly Happy Hour when Dave collapsed and we watched as some from our community and later the Jefferson County Fire Dept. EMTs tried to revive him.  This was such a traumatic event for all of us, but none more than his dear wife Marti. The following is taken from the obituary notice printed for his funeral at the North Kitsap Baptist Church on May 18, 2019:

David Alan Mathis, 79 was born on August 15, 1939.  He graduated from Puyallup High School, and attended Yakima Valley Community College and Bates Vocational School in Tacoma.  He also honorably served his country in the US Air Force from 1959-1963.  He married Martha Sawyer (Marti) on May 15, 1965 in Tacoma.  He worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Keyport as an Electronic Technician and retired after 26 years.  Dave served as the Bridgehaven Water District Manager from 1995-2019.  Dave and Marti enjoyed sailing, RVing, and bird watching.  He is survived by two sons and a daughter, and a brother and sister as well as 8 grandchildren.              

Dave is gone way too soon, and sorely missed by us all!  

We all knew her as Cindy, Marty's wife.  They were the ones in the ultra modern house at the north end of the Bridgehaven spit.  We were told if we wanted to know something about the early days of Bridgehaven, to ask Cindy. She had been on the board for years back then and was very knowledgeable about the community.  

Mrs. Cynthia Joyce (Harvey) Schoneker, born on December 2, 1935 in Montour Falls, New York to the late Viola S. Harvey and the late Robert L. Harvey, passed away at age 82 on May 22, 2018 in Arlington, Washington.

Cynthia was the beloved wife of the late Martin. She is survived by her sons, Eric Schoneker (Jennifer North) and Matthew Schoneker (Anna Schoneker); and granddaughters, Elle Sehorn and Isabella Schoneker.

She is deeply missed by her family and friends. A celebration of life for Cynthia will be held Saturday July 7th at 2PM at Community United Methodist Church in Port Hadlock, WA where she was a long time member.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, may donate in Cynthia's name to Community United Methodist Church.

Danny Jesse Jones, 12-14-1940 - 1-15-2018

Dan was born in Seattle December 14, 1940 to Dennis Corin Jones and Alta Jeanette (Rutledge) Jones.  He died in his sleep at home on January 15, 2018 at 77 years of age. 

He grew up in Auburn Valley and was a member of the Auburn High School class of 1959.  He spent most of his adult life in Renton/Kent/Auburn area, managing the Renton branch of Stusser Electric for many years.  He married Diane Stoke in 1961 and together they had three children.  They later divorced. 

In 1988 he married Margie Lewis.  They lived in Kent operating the Fat Hen Farm until retiring to Bridgehaven on Hood Canal in 1999.  There he enjoyed living on Hood Canal, boating, fishing, crabbing and RVing with friends and neighbors. 

He is survived by his wife Margie, his three children Denise (Mike) Jones of Auburn, Brian (Cheryl) Jones of Woodinville, Jennifer Jones (John) of Seattle, and his three step-children, Julie (JT) Borrows of Kirkland, Jeff (Lisa) Lewis of Federal Way, and Jody (Jennifer) of Maple Valley. Togther Dan and Margie shared 22 grand children and seven great-grand children.  He is also survived by his sister Susan Baker, his former wife Diane Jones, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday Februray 25, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Millennium Rooms at the Les Gove Senior Activity Center, 808 9th Street SE, Auburn, Washington.  

Marty Schoneker passed the way rather suddenly after a short illness on July 24, 2016. 

Cindy said that Marty had liver cancer that went undetected until July 7th. There was a memorial service held at Community United Methodist Church on August 3rd.  

We all were shocked also when we heard that Marty had passed on. They have two sons and one of them has been coming over to spend time with Cindy for long weekends. Marty and Cindy have lived for many, many years on the tip of the spit, 541 N. Beach Drive, here in Bridgehaven.  Our hearts go out to Cindy and her family.  

Bill Moore of Port Ludlow passed away here on May 26, 2016

Bill Moore, 67,  long time neighbor on North Beach Dr.,  passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016.   He had recently purchased the house at 381 North Beach Dr., after renting several years at 160 North Beach Dr.  

Bill was very happy to move into his own place and put his boats on a dock in the channel.  His passing was such a shock, as  neighbors had seen Bill out riding his bike that morning and he also visited with Cathy and Bob,  his neighbors, that day.  Many of us remember him out rowing around the canal areas from the old South Point dock north to Shine.  He loved boating;  he moored his 30 ft. Catalina sailboat here for awhile.  He later became  part-owner in a Trawler and traveled the Inside Passage to Alaska. He was looking forward to attending BCCA gatherings  as an owner and was interested in the marina projects.

Bill leaves behind his three daughters, Dr. Erin Moore, of Seattle, Carolyn Moore, of San Francisco, and Rebecca Moore, of Bend, Oregon.  He also has a brother and nephew on Bainbridge Island and his friend, Jim, always kept in touch with him.  There will be a Memorial later for Bill and the family will let us know when that will be held.   - Submitted by Cathy Wright

Former President of the BCCA, Steve Silver passed away on January 12, 2015.  Many residents may remember Steve from his six years on the board.  Steve also enjoyed taking his dogs to the Marina and riding his Harley and Yamaha.

After serving in the Airforce, Steve spent his early life as an aircraft mechanic.  After obtaining an education he became a mechanical engineer and then went into outside sales.  Steve loved his career and helping people, but also enjoyed his retirement.  Kepping busy with various hobbies.  Steve is survived by his wife Sandy, sisters Nancy and Candi, an aunt and various cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life on his birthday, March1 at 1:00 PM at the Bridgehaven Marina Pavilion.   

Mildred "Millie" Clear of Bridgehaven, Port Ludlow, WA passed away in Poulsbo, on December 8, 2014.  

Millie was born on June 12, 1930, in Oakland California.

The beloved the wife of over 40 years to John, she was also the mother to Steve, Julie, Terri, Warren and Russell.  Millie was grandmother to Kristine, Janelle, Joshua, Liann, Lauren, Laurel Amanda and Christy. She was great grandma to even more.

Millie's dazzling smile and laugh matched her immense love of life as witnessed by all who were privileged to know her. Her working career spanned decades in many fields and tell her retirement at age 70. Her completed personal bucket list included parasailing at the age of 60 and skydiving with three of her children at 80 years old.  She was an original "Thoroughly Modern Millie".

A celebration of her life is planned for friends and family will be held Valentine's Day, Saturday, February 14, 2015 in Silverdale at Oxford Suites Banquet Room, 9550 NW. Silverdale Way, Silverdale, WA 98383 for family and friends.
