EXCESSIVE USAGE

The several homes at the high end of water usage show either:

    1. Excessive irrigation or
    2. A leak in their residential plumbing.*
    * Most leaks occur at the toilet tank flapper valve. As much as 500 gallons a day can be leaking into the septic system, destroying the effectiveness of the septic tank.

To prevent this problem please check the spinner on your water meter occasionally to see if it spins when no water is being used in your home. Wasted water costs everyone on the system extra money in maintenance/electric bills and can lead to early replacement of machinery, not mentioning the need to conserve the water in our aquifer.

TOILET TIP

Pumice stone will remove the ring around your toilet bowl without harming the porcelain finish.

HOT WATER TANKS HINTS

Annual flushing of your hot water tank is necessary to keep the build up of minerals from blocking the lower section of your tank and decreasing its efficiency

DISAPPEARING WATER METERS!

Can you see and get to your water meter? Please help the water manager by keeping your water meter box exposed. Sometimes they have a habit of getting covered by landscaping as time goes by. This can save time in case they need to be shut off in a hurry.

MANGANESE MALACE

Due to the chemical makeup of our water, the amount of manganese in our water is some times a nuisance. It tends to collect in the water mains and hot water tanks. When the conditions or water temperature change slightly it can become dislodged. Occasionally it ends up coming out of a water tap. When this happens, the water can appear brownish, yellow, or black. If it happens to you, just flush your outside faucets for several minutes and it will clear up. Elevated Manganese is common in the Pacific Northwest and is not considered a health hazard.
